Center For Exchanging Cyber Threat Information Expanded
WASHINGTON, Feb. 10, 2017 – The American Chemistry Council’s (ACC) Chemical Information Technology Center (ChemITC) announced a new partnership with the Defense Security Information Exchange™ (DSIE) to help increase participation in the Chemical Sector ISAC (ChemISAC), which serves as a trusted community for companies to identify and share cyber threat information.
“Protecting the technology that helps run facilities, as well as the valuable information regarding chemical formulas and customer databases, from a potential cyberattack are mission critical for our industry,” said Ravi Waran, Executive Board Chairman of ChemITC. “We look forward to working with DSIE and benefit from its vast experience in creating successful partnerships for sharing cyber threat information.”
“DSIE is looking forward to partnering with ACC to expand the ChemISAC,” said Jay Weinstein, Chairman of the DSIE Board of Directors. “We believe this partnership will be a mutually beneficial one, and we believe the Chemical Sector will benefit greatly from the knowledge of our current membership.”
The Chemical Sector ISAC was reconstituted within ChemITC in 2013 through a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. After a pilot program of five initial members, ChemISAC has since expanded with ChemITC to address IT security threats and solutions for enterprise IT and industrial control systems. Its members share cyber threat information and lessons learned through monthly meetings and other networking opportunities, which also help ACC members fulfill their commitments under the Responsible Care® Security Code.
Through this new partnership DSIE, and its members who are also members of the ChemISAC, will assist the ChemISAC move into its next phase and expand its capabilities by providing technical analysis and helping facilitate meaningful collaboration to deal with cyber threats. DSIE and ChemISAC want to create an environment that will help encourage companies across the Chemical Sector to share relevant information and build productive working relationships with each other.

The Chemical Information Technology Center (ChemITC®) of the American Chemistry Council (ACC) established in March 2005, is a forum for companies in and associated with ACC to address common information technology issues. DSIE was established in 2008 with five founding members from the Defense Industrial Base (DIB), DSIE is the DIB’s Legacy Cyber Center of Excellence providing close to a decade of DIB companies collaborating to mature a mutual understanding of current and emerging cyber threats. DSIE also provides collective analysis and collaboration of threats, solutions processes, and resources resulting in active and candid collaboration yielding high confidence in shared data. Its members participate in DSIE’s unique trust model producing the highest-quality threat sharing in its industry.
